Dhaka: Information and Broadcasting Adviser Md. Mahfuj Alam announced that an integrated training course will soon be launched at the Bangladesh Cinema and Television Institute (BCTI) for those injured in the July Mass Uprising who are interested in art, culture, and film. The announcement was made during a cultural program organized by BCTI as part of the ‘Youth Festival’, celebrating the completion of four short-term training courses.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the adviser emphasized the importance of dignified rehabilitation for the injured, encouraging them to engage in fields they prefer, such as art, culture, and media. This engagement, he noted, would benefit the nation. He highlighted government initiatives already in place, such as journalism training programs arranged by the Press Institute Bangladesh (PIB) and upcoming courses from the National Institute of Mass Communication (NIMC).
Addressing the trainees, Mahfuj Alam mentioned the necessity of applying acquired knowledge practically, stressing the need for skilled manpower in Bangladesh’s technical filmmaking fields. He encouraged students to enhance their expertise in areas like sound, color, and editing. Despite the current state of the film market, he urged them to remain optimistic, pointing out the potential audience of 300 million Bangla-speaking people in Bangladesh and India.
The adviser called on filmmakers and trainees to produce high-quality content to meet audience demands and stressed the importance of creating regional language- and culture-based content to cater to the growing interest among audiences. He highlighted the necessity for art, culture, and film institutions to be free from politics and advocated for long-term planning in the sector.
Information and Broadcasting Secretary Mahbuba Farzana, NIMC Director General Muhammad Hiruzzaman, BCTI Governing Body member Rafiqul Anwar Russell, and BCTI Chief Executive Abul Kalam Mohammad Shamsuddin also spoke at the event. At the conclusion, 60 trainees were awarded certificates for completing four short-term courses conducted by BCTI: the Basic Film, the 2nd Film Appreciation, the 3rd Film Editing Training, and the 8th Film and Television Acting Training.
