Dhaka: Information and Broadcasting Secretary Mahbuba Farjana announced that the Bangladesh Film Archive will focus on collecting and preserving audio-visual documents related to the July uprising. She made this statement during a discussion meeting celebrating the 47th founding anniversary of the Bangladesh Film Archive in Agargaon.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Mahbuba Farjana emphasized the significance of the Bangladesh Film Archive as a specialized institution responsible for preserving crucial visual records. She expressed optimism that technological advancements would enhance the archive’s capacity. Plans are in place for modernizing film vault management through state-of-the-art equipment acquisition.
The secretary paid tribute to those who sacrificed during the July Uprising and affirmed the archive’s commitment to preserving related documents. She encouraged talented individuals and filmmakers to collaborate, ensuring future generations understand the sacrifices made to establish a non-discriminatory society in Bangladesh.
Bangladesh Film Archive is an active member of the International Federation of Film Archives and the International Association of Audio-Visual Archives. Mahbuba Farjana highlighted the importance of international collaboration to bolster the archive’s capabilities.
Director General Md Abdul Jalil, speaking as chair of the event, reiterated the archive’s dedication to preserving films and cultural heritage. He acknowledged the role of the proud young generation in the 2024 mass uprising and announced a priority project to document this historic event. The project, pending final approval, includes a documentary, museum, and interactive archive.
Jalil added that advanced technology will be implemented to modernize preservation and display facilities, strengthening the institutional capacity of the Bangladesh Film Archive.
The event included speeches by notable figures such as Bangladesh Film Archive Director Farhana Rahman, actress Rozina, and other distinguished guests from the film industry. The anniversary celebration also featured a rally with participation from the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting officials and film industry members.
