Dhaka: The 21st death anniversary of film actor Wasimul Bari Rajib was commemorated today. Known for his impactful roles in over 200 Bangla films, Rajib left an indelible mark on the film industry. Although he gained recognition for his portrayals of villains, he demonstrated versatility by taking on a variety of roles throughout his career.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Rajib succumbed to cancer on November 14, 2004, leaving a legacy cherished by both his loved ones and fans. Born on January 1, 1952, in Dumki Upazila of Patuakhali district, Rajib ventured into the film industry in the early 80s. His debut film "Rakhe Allah Mare Ke" paved the way for a successful career, including a lead role in the film "Khokonshona".
Beyond acting, Rajib was deeply involved in film-related organisations. He founded Friends Movies and managed the Bangladesh Film Development Corporation (BFDC). His leadership extended to serving as the president of the Jatiyatabadi Film Council. Before his acting career, Rajib worked at Titas Gas Company.
Rajib's leadership skills were evident in his roles outside of acting. He was instrumental in founding the Bangladesh Jatiotabadi Samajik Sangskritik Sangstha (Jasas), a cultural branch of BNP, where he served as general secretary and later as president. His contributions to cinema were recognized with the National Film Award for "Best Supporting Actor" on four occasions.
