Paturia: Ferry services on the busy Paturia-Daulatdia route resumed this evening after being suspended for 1 hour and 15 minutes due to a nor’wester accompanied by heavy rain and strong winds.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, officials of the Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC) at Paturia Ghat reported that ferry operations were halted at around 5:00 pm as stormy weather swept across the Padma River, posing risks to passenger and vehicle safety.

BIWTC Paturia Ghat Deputy General Manager (DGM) Abdus Salam stated that the authorities were compelled to suspend operations as the nor’wester intensified over the river basin. During the suspension, several ferries remained stranded on both sides of the route. At Paturia Ghat, the ferries Shah Mokdum, Shah Paran, and B.S. Dr. Golam Maula were held back. Meanwhile, at Daulatdia Ghat, Bir Shreshtha Jahangir, Kumilla, Keramat Ali, Shah Enayetpuri, Shaheed Barkat, and Bonolota were unable to depart.

Ferry services resumed at around 6:15 pm after weather conditions improved, restoring normal movement on the route, he added.
