Keraniganj: Fisheries and Livestock Adviser Farida Akhter today highlighted the critical role women play in advancing Bangladesh’s animal nutrition sector, citing their significant involvement in livestock care, management, and decision-making.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Farida emphasized that the national nutritional needs will not be fulfilled solely by large-scale farmers but require the collective efforts of both men and women in rural areas. She made these remarks while serving as the chief guest at a program for distributing animals and animal feed under the Integrated Livestock Development Project. The event took place at Ati Bhawal High School, Keraniganj, targeting the char areas in the districts of Manikganj, Dhaka, Munshiganj, Rajbari, Faridpur, and Shariatpur.

Farida pointed out that despite the lack of land or property ownership in their names, women in these regions consider cattle as their personal assets. She further elaborated that women’s economic empowerment is crucial for addressing family needs, including education and medical expenses, which may not always be adequately covered by the male members’ income.

The meeting was presided over by Dr. Md Abu Sufian, Director General of the Department of Livestock Services, and included remarks from Project Director Dr. Md. Abdur Rahim, among others.
