Dhaka: Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology Minister Faqir Mahbub Anam today urged the Jatiotabadi Samajik Sangskritik Sangstha (JASAS) to take a more active role in safeguarding folk culture, artists, and cultural heritage. He emphasized the importance of their role while speaking as the chief guest at a discussion held in memory of the esteemed lyricist, Ekushey Padak recipient, and founding president of the JASAS national executive committee, Lokman Hossain Fakir, at Shilpakala Academy.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the minister highlighted the significant contributions of Lokman Hossain Fakir to the country’s folk music and cultural scene, noting his enduring influence on people’s hearts through his songs and creations. Faqir also mentioned that Fakir received state recognition for his music direction in the film ‘Charitrahin’ in 1975 and garnered international acclaim for his dedication to folk music.
The minister remarked, “People may pass away, but those who work for the country and its culture live forever in the hearts of people.” He emphasized that JASAS could play a pivotal role in reviving lost folk culture and rural songs for the younger generation and pledged necessary support for expanding cultural programs at district and upazila levels.
State Minister for Cultural Affairs Ali Newaz Mahmood Khyom attended the event as a special guest, highlighting Lokman Hossain Fakir’s role as both a political figure and a committed cultural organizer. His life and works continue to inspire many.
Other notable speakers included BNP Joint Secretary General and Mymensingh District Council Administrator Syed Emran Saleh Prince, BNP Cultural Affairs Secretary Ashraf Uddin Ahmed Uzzal, and Co-Cultural Affairs Secretary Sayeed Sohrab. The program was presided over by JASAS central executive committee Convener Helal Khan.
