Dhaka: BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has reaffirmed the party's commitment to safeguarding economic stability, strengthening democratic governance, and ensuring the welfare of ordinary citizens, including farmers and workers of the country. Describing BNP as a responsible political party, built by Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman on the principles of hard work, discipline, and economic openness, he stated that Ziaur Rahman transformed Bangladesh from a one-party system to a multi-party democracy.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Fakhrul emphasized the contributions of Ziaur Rahman in shifting the economy from a closed model to an open one, significantly shaping the modern economic base of Bangladesh. Fakhrul made these remarks while addressing a session of the 'Fourth Bangladesh Economic Conference 2025: Future Economic Roadmap and Political Commitment' held at a hotel in the capital. Mirza Fakhrul also praised BNP Standing Committee Member Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury for presenting a clear economic roadmap for the party, highlighting Bangladesh's economic challenges and the BNP's proposed reforms. The BNP Secretary General remarked that the party's governance record had always emphasized economic progress, asserting that whenever BNP was in power, the economy remained active and robust, referring to Bangladesh as an emerging tiger.
He reiterated that the welfare of ordinary people is at the center of BNP's economic vision, emphasizing the importance of ensuring macroeconomic stability for national well-being. He called for a change in mindset regarding the treatment of businesspeople in the country, stressing the necessity of trust for the development of entrepreneurship and industry.
Fakhrul raised concerns about the impact of shutting down industries whose owners are accused of financial crimes, highlighting the importance of protecting employment while ensuring justice. He underscored Bangladesh's progress in agriculture, noting the country's remarkable achievement in self-sufficiency in food production since independence in 1971.
He stressed the urgent need for reforms in healthcare and education to align with the development needs of the population. Fakhrul pointed out that the BNP had long proposed political and economic reforms, with frameworks presented under the leadership of Begum Khaleda Zia in 2016 and again in 2023.
He emphasized the necessity of both economic and political roadmaps for charting the future of Bangladesh, asserting that political reforms are essential for stability and continuity. Reaffirming the BNP's vision, Fakhrul expressed the party's ambition to build a new and prosperous Bangladesh where citizens enjoy a better quality of life, governance is strong, and democracy is prioritized.
