Dhaka: Fact Watch, a private fact-checking entity in Bangladesh, identified a recent claim circulating on social media alleging the death of police member Jashim Ustad near Zatrabari Thana during the July Uprising as false. Fact Watch investigated the viral claim, which included a photo of Jashim and asserted that he was killed by “terrorists” while returning home from duty amid the anti-discrimination student protests.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, their findings confirmed that the claim is entirely baseless. In its report, Fact Watch clarified that Jashim Ustad, a member of the Bangladesh Police, is very much alive and currently serving in the Public Order Management Division of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) in the east zone.

The fact-checking organization also confirmed that no police member named Jashim Ustad was reported dead during the student-led anti-discrimination movement.
