DHAKA: The country's export earnings have recorded a 12.84 percent increase in the first half of the fiscal year 2024-2025 (FY25), reaching $24.53 billion compared to $21.74 billion in the same period of the previous fiscal year. This growth underscores a robust performance by Bangladesh's key export sectors, particularly the apparel industry.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, data from the Export Promotion Bureau (EPB) reveals that export earnings in December FY25 alone experienced a significant 17.72 percent growth, totaling $4.63 billion. This figure marks an increase from $3.93 billion in December of the prior fiscal year, indicating a strong finish to the calendar year for exporters.

The apparel sector, the largest contributor to the country's export earnings, played a crucial role in this growth, with earnings rising by 13.28 percent during the July-December period of FY25, totaling $19.89 billion. This sector remains the backbone of the country's export economy, continuing to drive overall growth despite global economic uncertainties.

Other significant sectors, including leather and leather goods, agricultural products, home textiles, frozen and live fish, and plastic products, also displayed positive growth during this period. These sectors contributed to the overall increase in export earnings, highlighting the diversified nature of Bangladesh's export portfolio.

However, not all sectors fared well. The export of jute and jute goods faced a downturn, reflecting challenges in this traditional sector amid changing global market dynamics. Despite this setback, the overall export performance remains optimistic, driven by strong demand in the apparel sector and other emerging markets.
