Dhaka: Religious Affairs Adviser Dr. A F M Khalid Hossain today urged all citizens to work towards building a discrimination-free society by fostering mutual respect and love, while upholding human values. “Excellent communal harmony has been existing among the people of Bangladesh belonging to different religions,” he stated during the concluding session of a two-day International Multi-faith Workshop held at the Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban at Dhaka University (DU).
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the workshop was organized by the Inter-Religion and Inter-Cultural Dialogue Centre of DU, the US-based Multi-faith Neighbours Network, and the Bangladesh Institute of Islamic Thought. The event aimed to build an inclusive society and strengthen religious harmony across the country. The session was graced by the presence of Pro-Vice Chancellor (Education) of Dhaka University, Prof. Dr. Mamun Ahmed, who attended as a special guest.
Chaired by Prof. Dr. Md Elias, the Convener of the Organizing Committee and Director of the Inter-Religion and Inter-Cultural Dialogue Centre, the event featured speeches from notable figures including Vice-Chancellor of the Islamic University, Prof. Dr. Nakib Ahmed Nasrullah, Chairman of the World Religion and Culture department of DU, Prof. Dr. Md Abu Sayem, and other distinguished academics and legal professionals.
Prof. Dr. Mamun Ahmed emphasized the importance of eradicating discrimination and division from society, urging individuals to practice unity in their personal lives. He called on everyone to contribute from their own positions to reinforce the existing social unity and harmony.
The workshop was attended by teachers from Dhaka University, researchers, students, religious leaders, and representatives from various organizations, demonstrating a collective commitment to fostering communal harmony in Bangladesh.
