Dhaka: A Dhaka court has approved the Anti-Corruption Commission’s (ACC) request to arrest former state minister for public administration, Farhad Hossain, in connection with a graft case. The order was passed by Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Md Sabbir Faiz, following a petition submitted by ACC Assistant Director and case investigation officer, Khorshed Alam.
According to United News of Bangladesh, the petition claims that Farhad, who held the ministerial position from 2019 to 2024, allegedly acquired assets exceeding Tk 1.11 crore that do not align with his known income, by misusing his power. The petition presented evidence of 12 bank accounts associated with Farhad, showing total deposits of over Tk 6.54 crore and withdrawals surpassing Tk 6.35 crore, indicating suspicious financial activities.
Farhad Hossain was detained on September 15 in the Eskaton area of the capital, following the fall of the Awami League government on August 5, 2024. In addition to the graft case, he has been implicated in several cases linked to the anti-discrimination student movement.
