Pallabi: Pallabi thana police arrested Safia Khatun, a former Member of Parliament (MP) in the reserved seats for women from Chakaria-Pekua Upazila of Cox's Bazar. Safia, also a former central president of the Mohila Awami League, was arrested last night from the Balughat area of Pallabi thana in connection with the Akram Khan Rabbi murder during the anti-discrimination student movement in Pallabi, police said. According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, police stated that they arrested Safia after her involvement with the murder was found in the CCTV footage, along with an intelligence report. Akram Khan Rabbi was killed on July 19 last year when he was crossing the road in front of Mirpur-10 during a protest rally in support of the anti-discrimination student movement. It was alleged that leaders and activists of various Awami League affiliated organizations opened fire on the protesters, injuring many, including Rabbi. Doctors at Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) declared him dead upon arrival at t he hospital. Akram's father, Faruk Khan, filed a murder case in connection with this incident with Pallabi thana police on August 25, 2024.
