Rangpur: Officials at the inaugural function of a three-day training programme today stressed on preparing accurate economic census of non-agriculture sector enterprises, trade and business statistics for proper planning of the national development. The district administration and district office of Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS) are jointly organising the programme for 111 Upazila Census Coordinators, Zonal Officers and IT Supervisors at Ghaghot Community Center in the city. Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Rabiul Faisal attended the event as the chief guest with Acting Deputy Director of Rangpur District Statistics Office Rajib Ghosh in the chair. Joint Director of Rangpur Divisional Statistics Office Md Shafiqul Islam was present as special guest. According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Kawnia Upazila Statistics Officer SM Shahnewaz presented a documentary on various aspects and importance of the Economic Census 2024. He emphasized that the main objectives of the economic census are to provide compre hensive statistical information for economic and social development planning and policy making. He noted that there is no alternative to an accurate economic census to present the overall economic picture of a country. He further stated that the census is crucial in formulating the country's accurate economic plan and that the spontaneous participation of the public is essential to collect accurate data in the census. The Deputy Commissioner highlighted the importance of accurate information for making correct plans, noting that a major obstacle to the development of third world countries is the lack of accurate information. He stressed that data collectors should be sincere in collecting data and should motivate people to provide accurate information. He mentioned the significance of ensuring that the data providers do not feel bored and that no one is left out. He acknowledged the technological improvements in data collection and storage but emphasized that data collectors play a key role in including accu rate data in the census. He urged all concerned to play a responsible role in conducting a time-befitting census with more accuracy on various sectors as a continuous process, so that the data from the economic census can be useful in building a new Bangladesh.
