Dhaka: A Dhaka court today placed former food minister Advocate Qamrul Islam on a four-day remand in a case lodged over the murder of Khaled Hasan Saifullah in the Lalbagh area during the recent anti-discrimination student movement. Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Belal Hossain passed the order as police produced the former minister before the court and pleaded to place him on a 10-day remand. According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, police arrested the former minister on November 18 from a house in the Uttara Sector-12 area. Previously, he was placed on an eight-day remand in a case concerning the murder of trader Abdul Wadud. Khaled Hasan Saifullah was killed on July 18 while participating in an anti-discrimination rally in the Lalbagh Government Residential Colony area. His father, Kamrul Hasan, filed the case on August 19 against 52 individuals, including ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina.
