Ex-Army Chief Shafiuddin Summoned by ACC

Dhaka: The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has summoned former Chief of Army Staff General S M Shafiuddin Ahmed for questioning as part of an investigation into the allegations of acquiring illegal assets through corruption. ACC Deputy Director of the Public Relations Department Md Aktarul Islam confirmed the matter to BSS today.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, a letter from the ACC headquarters requires General S M Shafiuddin Ahmed to appear at the commission's headquarters on September 14, bringing a photocopy of his National Identity Card (NID). The notice, signed by ACC Director and Investigating Officer Md Abul Hasnat, indicates that an investigation is underway into allegations that the former army chief acquired illegal assets through irregularities and corruption. Hearing and recording his statement is deemed necessary for a proper investigation into the allegations.

The notice also mentioned that a two-member investigation team has been formed to conduct the inquiry and submit its report. The team includes ACC Director Md Abul Hasnat as the team leader and Deputy Director Mozammel Hossain as a member. The former army chief has been requested to appear at the ACC headquarters at the scheduled time to provide his statement regarding the allegations.
