Dhaka: A delegation of the European Union (EU), led by EU Ambassador to Bangladesh Michael Miller, held a meeting with Commerce Adviser Sk. Bashir Uddin at his office at Bangladesh Secretariat today. During the meeting, detailed discussions were held on various aspects of trade, investment, and economic cooperation between Bangladesh and the European Union.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Commerce Adviser Sk. Bashir Uddin highlighted that the European Union is one of Bangladesh's largest trading partners, with significant potential for further expansion of trade. He mentioned that Bangladesh plans to advance towards signing a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) and subsequently a Free Trade Agreement (FTA) with the EU, following a thorough assessment of feasibility and trade-related data analysis, as stated in a Commerce Ministry press release.
EU Ambassador Michael Miller emphasized the importance of trade in strengthening relations. He noted the existing trade imbalance between the EU and Bangladesh and suggested that both sides have opportunities for mutual prosperity by addressing current challenges in trade and investment relations.
The meeting was attended by key figures, including Commerce Secretary Mahbubur Rahman; Spanish Ambassador Gabriel Sistiaga; Danish Ambassador Christian Brix M¸ller; and Trade Advisor of the EU Delegation to Bangladesh Abu Syed Belal.
