Dhaka: Secretary to the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change Dr Farhina Ahmed today emphasized the need for conserving natural resources, such as rivers, canals, valleys, and the atmosphere, to ensure sustainable food production. She highlighted the importance of managing food production systems to minimize environmental damage and secure nutritious food.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Dr Farhina made these remarks while addressing a workshop titled “Implementation of National Adaptation Plan from the Perspective of Food System and Nutrition,” held at a city hotel. The workshop was a joint effort by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change and the Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN).
During the workshop, Dr Farhina welcomed the memorandum of understanding (MoU) on food systems signed by the environment ministry with GAIN. She expressed optimism that this partnership would help identify challenges within the food system and develop effective solutions in line with the National Adaptation Plan.
The workshop was inaugurated by Dr Fahmida Khanam, additional secretary of the ministry. It saw participation from representatives across various ministries, government and private organizations, development partners, civil society, NGOs, scientists, and researchers.
