Cox’s bazar: The Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change has decided to demolish illegal shops and structures along the bank of Cox’s Bazar sea beach and revoke their licenses.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the Environment Ministry sent a formal letter to the Ministry of Land to take immediate action against these unauthorized structures. The ministry emphasized that under the Bangladesh Environment Conservation Act 1995 and the Ecologically Critical Area (ECA) Management Rules 2016, no permanent or temporary structures harmful to the environment can be set up within the designated ECA zones.

The Department of Environment has warned the concerned authorities to strictly adhere to these rules, stating that no such activities will be permitted in the future without prior approval from the Department of Environment (DOE). On April 19, 1999, Cox’s Bazar-Teknaf sea beaches were officially declared as Ecologically Critical Areas, and both the High Court and the Supreme Court have imposed restrictions on the construction of establishments along the beach.
