Environment and Climate Change Must Be Top Priority for Bangladesh’s Future: Rizwana

Dhaka: Syeda Rizwana Hasan, Adviser to the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change and the Ministry of Water Resources, today emphasized the urgent need to prioritize environmental protection and climate change to secure the nation’s future. During her convocation address at Convocation 2025 of Stamford University Bangladesh, held at the Expo Village of the Bashundhara International Convention Center, she highlighted the necessity of collective responsibility in building an environment-friendly, humane, and women-friendly society.



According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Rizwana Hasan cautioned that failure to act promptly could lead to a future where Bangladesh’s geography and environment may drastically change, affecting future generations. She acknowledged the ongoing challenges of air pollution, deforestation, and river pollution, emphasizing that these issues require sustained efforts for resolution. She also noted the progress in river restoration activities and legal and policy reforms for environmental protection, stating that these initiatives could advance more swiftly with proper cooperation.



In her address, Rizwana Hasan also stressed the importance of compassion and animal welfare, urging a humane approach towards all living beings and nature. She called upon families, society, and educational institutions to play a vital role in nurturing a better generation. Despite past injustices and challenges, she noted that people’s aspirations have consistently led to progress. She expressed concern over negative propaganda and urged vigilance and positivity, advocating for a society free of discrimination, where politics centers around people’s rights and empowerment.



Rizwana Hasan highlighted the depth of Bangladesh’s problems, insisting that solutions require long-term dedication from every citizen. She urged individuals to fulfill their responsibilities from their respective positions.



Dr. Salehuddin Ahmed, Adviser to the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Science and Technology, presided over the convocation. He encouraged graduates to take responsibility, think and work for society, remain diligent, dream big, and dedicate themselves to serving humanity. The event saw 1,407 graduates from five faculties and 14 departments receive their degrees. Ten students were honored with the Chancellor’s Gold Medal for achieving the highest CGPA, while 40 students received the Vice Chancellor’s Gold Medal.
