Rangpur: Disaster Management and Relief Minister Asadul Habib Dulu, MP, emphasized the pivotal role entrepreneurs can play in the swift advancement of Rangpur’s agro-based industrial sector, a move aimed at fostering equitable regional development.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the minister highlighted the unique industrialization-friendly environment in Rangpur during a discussion on “Equitable Regional Development and Industrialization Potential in the Northern Region,” held at the Deputy Commissioner’s conference room. The event featured Prime Minister’s Adviser on the Ministry of Finance and Planning, Dr. Rashed Al Mahmud Titumir, as a special guest, with Rangpur Divisional Commissioner Md Shahidul Islam presiding.
Minister Dulu pointed out that Rangpur, historically subjected to developmental neglect, offers affordable land, labor, and a conducive law and order situation, making it an ideal site for industrial growth. He underscored the necessity of attracting investors and securing government support to transform Rangpur into a developmental model.
Moreover, the minister recounted Prime Minister Tarique Rahman’s acknowledgment of the region’s potential during a visit preceding the 13th National Parliament elections. He expressed optimism that with investor interest and governmental facilitation, the aspirations of the new administration and the Prime Minister’s vision for Rangpur can be realized.
Dr. Rashed Al Mahmud Titumir outlined three critical areas for Rangpur’s development: optimal utilization of agricultural surplus and natural resources, job creation, and equity-driven regional progress. He stressed the impact of resource management on the region’s economic viability and advocated for initiatives like startup capital formation and a special fund for women entrepreneurs.
He also noted that enhancing ports, railways, and inter-state communication systems would significantly contribute to regional industrialization. The discussion saw participation from various MPs and local officials, all of whom voiced strong support for the proposed developmental strategies.
