Rangpur: An elderly woman died after being struck by lightning while picking potatoes in the village of Kaliganj Mandalpara of Badarganj upazila at 10 am today. The incident occurred as Sahida Begum, 70, was working in a field with her son, Anisur Rahman, 45.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Badarganj police station, AKM Atiqur Rahman, informed local journalists that the unfortunate event took place amidst a light rain accompanied by lightning. As the lightning struck, Sahida Begum fell to the ground and died instantly. Her son, Anisur Rahman, sustained serious injuries.
Local sources reported that after the incident, community members promptly recovered Sahida Begum’s body from the scene. Anisur Rahman was rushed to the hospital for urgent medical attention.
