Dhaka: Holy Eid-ul-Fitr, a significant religious festival for Muslims, is being observed across the country today with due solemnity. The main congregation took place at the National Eidgah on the High Court premises at 8:30 am, led by Mufti Muhammad Abdul Malek, the Khatib of Baitul Mukarram National Mosque. The President, Prime Minister, Chief Justice, cabinet members, judges of the Supreme Court, senior political leaders, and high-level civil and military officials participated in the prayers.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the Eid jamaat at the National Eidgah was organized by the DSCC, which provided arrangements for approximately 35,000 attendees, including a separate section for women. Security was heightened with the deployment of police, RAB, and other law enforcement agencies, alongside Special Security Force members ensuring the safety of VVIPs. The perimeter of the National Eidgah was cordoned off, with new water taps installed for ablution. Two entrances were available, including a separate gate for VVIPs and another for women.
Five Eid congregations were sequentially held at Baitul Mukarram National Mosque, beginning at 7:00 am and concluding with the final congregation at 10:45 am. Each was led by different religious leaders, including Maulana Mizanur Rahman and Mufti Maulana Mohammad Abdullah. Additionally, prayers were conducted at the South Plaza of the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban at 8:00 am, attended by parliament members and local devotees, with separate arrangements for women.
Eid-ul-Fitr, marking the conclusion of Ramadan, sees Muslims abstain from eating and drinking from dawn to dusk throughout the month. Following the prayers, attendees exchanged greetings at the prayer venues.
