Efforts to Ensure Safe Eid Journey to Be Continued: Transport Secretary

Dhaka: Senior Secretary to the Road Transport Ministry Md Ehsanul Haque announced today that efforts to ensure a safe and pleasant Eid journey this year will continue. He made this statement while briefing journalists after inspecting the Sayedabad and Gabtoli inter-district bus terminals at Gabtoli Bus Terminal.



According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the senior secretary stated that the ministry, along with senior officials from the Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA), police, and representatives from transport owners and workers, held several meetings to ensure a safe journey for home-goers during Eid. Haque emphasized that measures have been taken to curb extortion, mugging, theft, dacoity, and the overcharging of passengers during Eid-ul-Fitr. He assured that these efforts would continue during the return journey of people after Eid.



Responding to a query, the secretary mentioned that the BRTA has established booths at all bus terminals, with the RAB and Dhaka Metropolitan Police working around the clock to prevent the overcharging of passengers. He added that necessary actions would be taken against culprits immediately after receiving complaints about extra fare collection.



The secretary also called for cooperation from all parties to ensure a smooth Eid journey and to guarantee the safety and security of homebound passengers. Among those accompanying the secretary were BRTA Chairman Md Yasin, senior police officials, and representatives of transport owners and workers.
