Dhaka: Religious Affairs Adviser Dr. AFM Khalid Hossain today emphasized the necessity of combining education with morality to foster good human beings. “Patriotism cannot be built up among human beings without morality with education,” he stated during an orientation program for the Fall and Spring Semester students at Bangladesh Islami University (BIU) in the city’s Mugda area, where he served as the chief guest.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Dr. Hossain stressed the importance of integrating religious values with education, noting that without moral education, students merely earn certificates. He remarked that many of the world’s leading universities are private institutions founded on religious principles, underscoring that these universities are not inferior to public ones in terms of standards. He cited Egypt’s Al Azhar University, established based on a mosque, as an example of such institutions.
The adviser warned that students lacking moral grounding in their education might engage in immoral activities, including irregularities and corruption, after completing their studies. He urged students to abstain from immoral acts and maintain high moral standards. Reflecting on the past, he commented on the impact of politics on educational institutions post-War of Liberation, arguing that partisan politics had caused significant harm in Bangladesh, unlike any other political culture globally.
Dr. Khalid Hossain encouraged new students to steer clear of traditional partisan politics and focus on learning to become worthy citizens. He also called on university authorities to ensure transparency in all their operations. The event was chaired by the University’s Vice-Chancellor, Kazi Akhter Hossain, and attended by notable figures such as Founder and Chairman of the University Prof. Kamal Uddin Abdullah Zafree, VC of Bangladesh Islamic Arabic University (BIAU) Prof. Dr. Md Shamsul Alam, Editor of Dainik Jugantar Abdul Hay Sikdar, and Trustee of the Private University Syed Zarif Zafree, alongside teachers, officers, employees, and students.
