Education must inculcate higher values: Inu

DHAKA- Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu said yesterday that educational institutions must become centers of cultivating values, as well.

He was speaking as chief guest at the 15th founding anniversary of a private university- Bangladesh University- at the Krishibid Institute.

Paying rich tributes to the martyrs of the Language Movement, the minister said that the goal of education was to create enlightened human beings.

He went on saying "And for that one needs a life inspired by higher values. Those who have love for people and country were widely respected. Apart from education it is important that the institutions provide students with secular and egalitarian ideals",.

"In this age of globalization the capacity to differentiate between bad and good was important for success", he said and added "One has to achieve something in life. Even if you are not a banyan tree, be a tall tree, at least try being a grass-flower so that it is of use to people."

Chaired by the chairman of the Board of Trustees Kazi Azharul Islam, the meeting was also addressed by Advocate Jahangir Kabir Nanak, MP and director of the Press Institute of Bangladesh (PIB) Shah Md Alamgir.
