Dhaka: Education Minister ANM Ehsanul Haque Milon announced comprehensive measures to ensure the upcoming Secondary School Certificate (SSC) examinations are conducted fairly, transparently, and smoothly. He emphasized this commitment after a meeting at the Education Ministry, where he discussed the distribution of question papers without irregularities or disruptions.

According to United News of Bangladesh, the government is dedicated to accountability and oversight in the education sector, with plans for time-appropriate reforms. Minister Milon highlighted the importance of avoiding past temporary measures, such as examination suspensions and auto-pass decisions, aiming instead for a modern and accountable education system.

Addressing concerns about the politicization of teachers, Milon stressed that teaching should be their primary focus and that any grievances should be resolved through dialogue rather than protests. He assured that legitimate demands would be respected by the government.

The minister also reiterated the government’s zero tolerance for cheating and expressed optimism that strengthened ethics and study habits among students would eventually eliminate the need for anti-cheating measures. Special provisions will be made for coastal, char, and haor areas affected by natural disasters, including alternative arrangements.

Regarding curriculum development, preparations are underway with experts from the National Curriculum and Textbook Board. An Education Commission may be formed after discussions with the Prime Minister. Accountability in MPO-listed private educational institutions will be reinforced with strengthened regulations and monitoring.

Further initiatives will focus on reorganizing the National Teacher Registration and Certification Authority to improve teacher recruitment and discipline. English-medium institutions will be gradually integrated into government policy frameworks to ensure compliance with official regulations and safety standards.

Milon addressed allegations of irregularities in transfers during the election period, assuring that administrative decisions will be reviewed and investigated for any violations or misconduct. Around 1,700 MPO applications are under review, with strict action promised against any corruption.

Concerns over delays in retirement and welfare benefits for non-government teachers were acknowledged, with plans to reconstitute the trust and prioritize pending allowances. The government will also focus on skill development, emphasizing technical and technology-based education, enhancing practical components in vocational training, and integrating modern technologies like AI into the curriculum.

Immediate priorities include creating a conducive classroom environment, revising the national curriculum, and modernizing technical education. The ‘One Teacher, One Tab’ initiative will be rolled out in phases, with a 180-day roadmap to be announced soon. The minister pledged to strengthen monitoring through regulatory bodies, ensuring no room for corruption in the education sector, while upholding ethics, accountability, and quality education.
