Tangail: Education Adviser Prof. Dr. C R Abrar today emphasized the importance of implementing a merit-based evaluation system to unlock the potential of students. Speaking as the chief guest at a program held at Nagbari Hasina Chowdhury High School, he underscored that proper evaluation of merit forms the foundation of a modern education system.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the event also honored freedom fighter poet Bulbul Khan Mahbub and the school's former headmaster, Md. Afroz Hossain Siddiqui, with 'Lifetime Achievement Awards'. Prof. Abrar further elaborated on the concept of patriotism, urging students to practice honesty, responsibility, humanity, and justice, while standing against injustice.
He encouraged students to focus on their studies and fulfill their societal responsibilities. Prof. Abrar also paid tribute to the contributions of Dr. Ashraf Siddiqui, highlighting his dedication to collecting folk literature and his commitment to education, despite having received higher education from prestigious global institutions.
Addressing the country's cultural and religious diversity, Prof. Abrar remarked that Bangladesh's multiplicity of languages, cultures, and ethnic communities is a strength. He called for embracing this diversity to build a humane, justice-based, and progressive nation. He also spoke about the government's efforts in curriculum development, textbook quality improvement, and enhancing co-curricular activities.
The programme was chaired by former state minister for Foreign Affairs Abul Hasan Chowdhury, with the welcome address delivered by eminent social worker Abul Kashem Chowdhury. The event saw the participation of teachers, students, cultural activists, local dignitaries, and senior officials from district and upazila levels.
