Dhaka: The Election Commission (EC) has released an amended gazette notification officially declaring Mohammad Ishraque Hossain, the candidate nominated by the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), as the mayor of the Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC).

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the gazette notification was published on the government website this evening. The DSCC election, which took place on February 1, 2020, initially declared Awami League candidate Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh as the winner. However, Ishraque Hossain contested the election results and filed a case with the Election Tribunal on March 3, 2020, challenging the EC’s initial gazette.

On March 27, 2025, the Election Tribunal and Dhaka Joint District Sessions Judge 1st Court overturned the election results, declaring BNP leader Ishraque as the rightful mayor. Ishraque is the son of the late BNP leader and former mayor of the undivided Dhaka City Corporation, Sadeque Hossain Khoka.
