Dhaka: The Election Commission (EC) has announced plans to establish a 'Law and Order and Misinformation Monitoring Cell' in preparation for the upcoming by-election in the Thakurgaon-1 constituency, set for October 29.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, this initiative was detailed in a letter signed by EC Deputy Secretary Mohammad Monir Hossain. The letter revealed that the election schedule was released on September 10, with October 29 designated as the polling date for the vacant Thakurgaon-1 seat in the 13th Jatiya Sangsad.
To ensure the election is conducted in a fair and organized manner, the EC will create a 'Law and Order Coordination Committee'. This committee will be supported by the newly formed monitoring cell, which will be housed in the Election Commission building. It will include representatives from different ministries, divisions, forces, and intelligence agencies.
The EC has requested the prompt submission of names and mobile numbers of nominated representatives who possess relevant experience and hold positions no lower than Deputy Secretary, Major, Superintendent of Police, or equivalent. The letter emphasized the need for these representatives to have an understanding of their organization's structure, command chain, and deployment details.
Additionally, the representatives should be capable of establishing effective communication with colleagues from headquarters to the field and have the ability to exchange information promptly. They are also required to have technical expertise in handling misinformation and disinformation.
