Thakurgaon:The Election Commission (EC) Secretariat Senior Secretary Akhtar Ahmed has assured the public that all necessary measures are in place for a smooth by-election in the Thakurgaon-1 constituency. The voting is scheduled to take place tomorrow from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Akhtar Ahmed stated that a monitoring cell has been set up at the EC building to oversee the electoral process. This cell will focus on the conditions at polling stations, the law and order situation, and the management of the voting process.
Ahmed addressed these preparations while responding to journalists' questions at the EC building, highlighting that similar strategies were employed during the national election on February 12 and in by-elections for two constituencies in Sherpur and Bogura.
The monitoring efforts will involve coordination with the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), the Special Reserve Battalion (SRB), and the police. Surveillance will be enhanced through the use of body-worn cameras by BGB and police personnel and drones operated by the BGB.
The senior secretary also mentioned that the commission is actively reviewing reports from various media outlets and news portals, taking necessary actions based on the findings. He emphasized that the environment in Thakurgaon-1 is conducive to peaceful voting, with active communication being maintained with local authorities, including the deputy commissioner, the superintendent of police, and the returning officer.
