EC Asserts Independence in Election Management, Urges Adherence to Law

Dhaka: Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) A M M Nasir Uddin today emphasized that the Election Commission (EC) will not succumb to any undue pressure while fulfilling its responsibilities to conduct a free, fair, and credible national election. Addressing the Upazila Nirbahi Officers (UNOs) at the inauguration of a Training of Trainers (ToT) program on election management at the Electoral Training Institute (ETI) in Agargaon, the CEC reinforced the EC’s commitment to lawful decision-making and support for election officials.



According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the CEC highlighted the importance of upholding legal standards, assuring officials that the EC would provide necessary support without imposing any unjust or unlawful directives. He encouraged the UNOs to deliver a well-conducted election by adhering to the law and maintaining professionalism.



The CEC spoke of his vision for a new Bangladesh, stressing the importance of respecting the law as a measure of a nation’s civilization. He called for a culture of legality, emphasizing that the rule of law should prevail over rule by law.



Coordination during the election process was underscored as a critical responsibility for the UNOs. The CEC outlined the need for effective collaboration with law enforcement, presiding officers, and election monitoring cells to ensure smooth electoral operations.



Election Commissioner Anwarul Islam Sarkar assured the UNOs that the EC would support them in their duties, urging them to act courageously and impartially. He emphasized the need for a disciplined election environment and transparent mobile courts, warning against purposeful misconduct.



Begum Tahmida Ahmad advised against excessive enthusiasm leading to unlawful actions, while Abul Fazal Md. Sanaullah called for adherence to the code of conduct, aiming for an exemplary election through coordinated field administration.



The speeches collectively reinforced the EC’s commitment to a lawful, impartial, and well-coordinated electoral process, aiming to set a standard for future elections.
