Durga Puja to be held at 259 mandaps in Kushtia

Durga Puja, the biggest religious festival of the Bangalee Hindu community, will be celebrated at 259 mandaps in the district this year.

The five-day festival will begin on October 20 with due respect and religious fervor across the country and end on October 24 with immersion of the idols of goddess Durga and other deities.

District Puja Udjapon Committee sources said, 85 mandaps will be erected in Sadar upazila, 13 in Daulatpur upazila, 11 in Bheramara upazila, 26 in Mirpur upazila, 60 in Kumarkhali upazila and 64 in Khoksa upazila of the district.

In order to ensure overall security during the Durga Puja, monitoring teams will work at the district and upazila levels on behalf of the District Puja Udjapon Committee as well as the administration and close-circuit cameras will be installed by the Puja Udjapon Committee in each mandap, the committee sources said.

The artisans are passing their busy time to give final touches and the work of decorating and painting the idols is going on in full swing.

Superintendent of Police (SP) A H M Abdur Rakib said all kinds of steps will be taken to celebrate the Durga Puja in a festive atmosphere and the law enforcement forces will carry out their duties in a coordinated manner.

District Relief and Rehabilitation Office sources said, each mandap will get 500 kgs of rice for celebrating the Durga Puja in the district.
