19th Asian Games: Nepal secures first medal

Kathmandu, Oct 6: Nepal has finally been successful to bag a medal in the ongoing 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou, China. Nepal received a bronze medal in women kabaddi.

In the semifinal, Nepal was defeated by India in women kabaddi, thereby being limited to bronze medal. India defeated Nepal in 61-17 points.

Nepal had entered semifinal as a first runner up under group 'B'. Similarly, India had entered seminal being the winner of group 'A'.

All four teams playing seminal in kabaddi are entitled to medals.

It is the first time Nepal participated in the Asian Games under women kabaddi.

Group 'B' has Iran and Bangladesh as well. As a winner of group 'B', Iran had got entry to the semifinal. Now, it is playing with first runner up of group 'A', Chinese Taipei.

The players in the Nepali team are Menuka Kumari Rajbanshi (captain), Manmati Bista, Jayanti Badu, Sunita Thapa, Rabina Chaudhari, Anuja Kulung Rai, Ganga Rai, Nitu Gurung, Isha Rai, Arpana Chaudhari, Sirjana Tharu and Kalawati Pant. Team instructor is Bishnu Datt Bhatta.
