Durbachara School Triumphs in National Girls’ Handball Championship

Cumilla:Durbachara Bahumukhi Secondary School from Kushtia has successfully defended its title as the national girls' handball champion at the 53rd National Summer School Sports Competition. The team maintained an unbeaten record throughout the tournament, securing the championship with a series of dominant performances.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Durbachara represented the Golap region, consisting of the Khulna and Barishal divisions. In their final league match, they triumphed over Mankone High School from the Padma region, which includes the Dhaka and Mymensingh divisions, with a decisive 32-3 victory. This match took place at the Ispahani Cantonment Public School and College ground in Cumilla.

Tahsina Akter and Farzana Akter Nidhi led Durbachara's scoring efforts, each contributing eight goals in the final game. This victory marks the second consecutive national championship for Durbachara, following their previous win at the 52nd edition of the competition last year.

The team's journey to the national finals included a series of successes, starting with their victory in the Kushtia district championship. They went on to defeat Narail 21-2 in the sub-regional final in Khulna, which secured their qualification for the regional finals. In the regional stage, they overcame hosts Barishal with a commanding 20-2 win, earning their place in the national finals in Cumilla.

Md Saidul Islam Sayeed, the sports teacher at Durbachara, played a crucial role in the team's development. He expressed his pride in the team's dedication and achievements, stating, "I saw the girls' determination and desire to do well, and that inspired me to keep working with them. I am delighted to see the results of those efforts. I hope they will one day represent Bangladesh and bring honour to the country."

The final round of the 53rd National Summer School Sports Competition began on October 6 at the Shaheed Dhirendranath Datta Stadium in Cumilla. The event is managed by the Cumilla Education Board and features secondary-level students from Grades Six to Ten. It is organized by the Bangladesh National School, Madrasa and Technical Education Sports Association, which divides the country into four regions Bokul, Champa, Golap, and Padma.

Youth and Sports State Minister Md Aminul Haque is scheduled to distribute prizes to the winners at the competition's conclusion.
