Dudu Expresses Hope for Democracy Through February Elections

Dhaka: BNP Vice-Chairman Shamsuzzaman Dudu today expressed optimism that the interim government will establish democracy in the country by facilitating elections in February.



According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Dudu emphasized the importance of forming a parliament with representatives chosen by the people, stating that elections are the only path to democracy.



Dudu delivered his remarks at a discussion titled ‘There is no alternative to the national parliament election’, organized by the Jatiyatabadi Muktijoddha Dal at the Zahur Hossain Chowdhury Hall of the National Press Club. The event featured BNP Standing Committee member Major (retd) Hafiz Uddin Ahmed as the chief guest.



Highlighting the historical contributions of Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman, Dudu noted that Ziaur Rahman not only declared independence but also actively fought to achieve it. He took leadership to protect the country’s sovereignty and re-establish democracy, thus shaping a modern Bangladesh.



Dudu also recalled the efforts of former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia, who re-established democracy after nine years of struggle against autocracy. He criticized the current period of authoritarian rule under Sheikh Hasina, noting that leaders such as Begum Khaleda Zia and Tarique Rahman have led movements to restore democracy.



The discussion was presided over by Jatiyatabadi Muktijoddha Dal President Syed Ishtiaq Aziz Ulfat. Other speakers included General Secretary of Olama Dal Dhaka Mohanagar South Hafez Qari Rafiqul Islam and President of Desh Bachao Manush Bachao Andolan K M Rakibul Islam Ripon.
