DU student’s hanging body recovered from SM hall

Police recovered the hanging body of a student of Dhaka University from its Salimullah Muslim Hall in the capital this afternoon.

The deceased was Manjurul Islam allies Manju, hailed from Gopalganj, a student of university's Bangla department under 2016-17 academic sessions, Salimullah Muslim Hall provost Dr. Md. Iqbal Rouf Mamun told BSS.

"Being informed, Police rushed to the scene and found the body hanging with a ceiling fan. The body was recovered around 5pm from room no 165 of the dorms with the help of hall authorities", said Md Al Amin, Sub-inspector of Shahbagh police station.

"Talking to students, we came to know that there were three more students in the room who left the room in the morning. However, they found the body was hanging with the ceiling fan when they returned the dorms", he added.

"While we were leaving the room in the morning, Manju bhai was sleeping. But we found his body hanging with the ceiling fan when we returned the room", said Manju's roommate Forhad.

"We do not know why he chose to commit suicide. However, he remained quiet and calm over the few days," Forhad added.
