Dhaka: A Dhaka court today sent Dhaka University (DU) deputy registrar Lovelu Mollah Shishir, 46, to jail in a case filed under the Anti-Terrorism Act with Shahbagh Police Station. Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Masum Miah passed the order as the police produced Lovelu before the court and pleaded to show him arrested in the case filed on June 1.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Lovelu was a vice-president of the banned Bangladesh Chhatra League’s central committee and had also worked as the personal secretary to former Dhaka University vice-chancellor Akhteruzzaman. The police have linked Lovelu to activities that fall under the purview of the Anti-Terrorism Act, leading to his arrest and subsequent court appearance.
The case against Lovelu highlights ongoing efforts by authorities to address activities deemed threatening to national security. His previous affiliations with the Bangladesh Chhatra League and his role as a personal secretary to a former vice-chancellor have brought his activities under scrutiny.
