Narayanganj: Detective Branch (DB) of police arrested a Chhatra League leader from Narayanganj district on charges of attacking protestors during the anti-discrimination student movement on the Dhaka University (DU) campus. The arrested was identified as Emon Khan Jiban, 28, hospitality secretary of DU’s Salimullah Muslim Hall unit of the Chhatra League.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, acting on a tip-off, Emon was arrested from Narayanganj around 10pm on Sunday, said Muhammad Talebur Rahman, deputy commissioner of media and public relations, Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP). The arrest follows an incident where students of DU brought out a procession in support of the anti-discrimination movement from Raju Memorial Sculpture. During this procession, leaders and activists of various organisations affiliated with Awami League, including the banned organisation Chhatra League, reportedly attacked the protesting students with local weapons and firearms. The attack left 300 students injured on the after

The situation led Mahin, a student of DU, to file a case with Shahbagh police station on October 21. The arrest of Emon Khan Jiban marks a significant step in the ongoing investigation into the incident as authorities aim to hold accountable those responsible for the violence against student protestors.
