Dhaka: Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) has undertaken several initiatives to facilitate safe and hassle-free travel for passengers during the upcoming Eid al-Fitr.

According to United News of Bangladesh, these decisions were finalized during an emergency meeting at Nagar Bhaban chaired by DSCC Administrator Mohammad Abdus Salam.

The city corporation plans to modernize terminal management, eradicate illegal ticket counters, and enhance infrastructure to alleviate passenger difficulties and reduce traffic congestion. The meeting was attended by representatives from the Dhaka Metropolitan Police, Dhaka Road Transport Bus Owners Association, Sayedabad Inter-District Bus Terminal Transport Owners Association, and Sayedabad Inter-District Bus Terminal Transport Workers Committee.

Officials announced that all illegal ticket counters along the road from the slope of Sayedabad bridge to TT Para would be removed after issuing notices within a specified timeframe. Additionally, illegal shops inside the terminal will face eviction through special drives. Ticket counters within the terminal will be allocated exclusively to legitimate bus companies, coordinated by the DSCC, the bus owners’ association, and traffic police.

The authorities emphasized that buses would not be allowed to use the terminal as a depot. Instead, buses must utilize the five designated bus bays, with a maximum waiting period of 20-30 minutes for passenger boarding to ensure efficient use of the terminal and bus bays. A new information desk and a breastfeeding room will be established at the terminal for passenger convenience.

Officials have been directed to complete ongoing renovation work, repair toilets, and address waterlogging issues promptly ahead of the Eid rush. Transport owners were urged to ensure that operators do not charge passengers above the government-approved fare during Eid travel.

The traffic division has been tasked with removing long-abandoned buses inside the terminal to ease congestion on the surrounding roads. DSCC Administrator Mohammad Abdus Salam emphasized the collaboration between the city corporation, police, bus owners, and workers to ensure smooth Eid travel and long-term traffic management. He affirmed, “We will implement these coordinated decisions at any cost to ensure comfort for passengers during the Eid journey.”

Later in the day, the 12th board meeting of the DSCC governing body took place at Nagar Bhaban.
