Ahalia:A newly paved road in Ahalia, adjacent to the playground in Sector 14 of Uttara, was dug up again on Wednesday due to foul-smelling water seeping through its fresh surface, just a day after the final asphalt work was completed.
According to United News of Bangladesh, the road had been under renovation for approximately four to five months, with the final layer of asphalt laid on Monday night. By Tuesday morning, residents observed foul-smelling water emerging through the newly paved road, attributed to issues with the drainage work.
The unpleasant smell quickly spread across the surrounding area, causing discomfort among nearby residents. By Wednesday morning, workers returned to address the issue by removing sections of the newly laid asphalt.
Locals alleged that the incident resulted from substandard work and inadequate supervision during the renovation. They expressed frustration over witnessing a newly completed road being broken up within just 24 hours and questioned why the drainage problem was not identified before the final asphalt was laid.
Residents have urged authorities to ensure proper supervision and quality control in future infrastructure projects. They emphasized the importance of completing road and drainage works efficiently and in a coordinated manner to prevent unnecessary public inconvenience and resource wastage. The incident has heightened concerns about the quality of infrastructure work in the area and the need for stronger monitoring during project implementation.
