Dhaka: The government has appointed Dr Baharul Alam as the new Inspector General of Police (IGP) and Sheikh Mohhamad Sajjat Ali as the new Commissioner of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP). Both appointments were announced today, marking significant changes in the leadership of Bangladesh's police force. According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, separate gazette notifications from the Public Administration Ministry have confirmed that both individuals have been given a two-year contractual appointment. The terms of their appointment require them to sever all working relations with any other profession, business, or government, semi-government, and private organizations. Dr Baharul Alam will assume the role as the 33rd IGP, while Sajjat Ali will take on the position of the 38th Commissioner of the DMP. Both officials hail from the sixth batch (84-batch) of the Bangladesh Civil Service (BCS) examination. Dr Bahar, who retired in 2020, has previously served in various capacities within the police department both domestically and internationally. Similarly, Sheikh Sajjat Ali, who was sent to force retirement in September 2016, has held multiple positions within the police department throughout his career.
