Dhaka: Chief Adviser Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus today lauded the courageous role of doctors during the July mass uprising, declaring them not just healthcare providers, but heroes. At a commemoration program for health workers at the Shaheed Abu Sayeed Convention Center, Prof Yunus acknowledged the pivotal role played by doctors in treating injured fighters.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Prof Yunus expressed profound sorrow over the recent Bangladesh Air Force training jet crash into Milestone School and College. He offered prayers for the victims and emphasized the significance of doctors and health workers during such tragedies, highlighting their position as beacons of hope in times of panic and fear.

Prof Yunus extended his gratitude to health workers who tirelessly served the injured, despite personal risks and challenges. He highlighted the obstacles faced by medical professionals during the July uprising, when the ruling government attempted to prevent treatment of injured protesters. Despite these hurdles, doctors and nurses continued their mission, treating patients secretly and even setting up temporary clinics in garages and homes.

The Chief Adviser recounted how medical staff evaded government scrutiny by altering patient records to protect identities. They managed blood donations and sourced medical supplies independently, showcasing their unwavering dedication to saving lives. Prof Yunus praised their selfless actions and risk-taking, noting the immense dangers they faced personally and professionally.

In closing, Prof Yunus conveyed the nation’s gratitude and respect for the health workers and doctors who stood firm during the uprising, underscoring their irreplaceable role in preserving lives and maintaining hope amidst adversity.
