Dhaka: Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) administrator Mohammd Ejaj today declared that battery-run rickshaws will no longer be permitted to operate on the main roads of the capital. ‘From now on we will no longer allow any battery-run rickshaw to be operated in the capital’s highways. However, we will allow E-Rickshaw to operate on the internal roads maintaining the standard,’ DNCC administrator said at a seminar.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the seminar, organized by DNCC, aimed to establish policies and measures regarding the operation of battery-run rickshaws in the city and to discuss the progress of developing standard prototypes of E-Rickshaws. The DNCC administrator announced plans to form a high-level committee soon to determine the policies and standards for E-Rickshaws.
During the seminar, the DNCC authority urged prototype manufacturing companies to adhere to the proposal of the Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology’s (BUET) BEPRC Easy Bike project. The event was attended by DNCC Chief Executive Officer Abu Sayeed Md. Kamruzzaman, NDC chief engineer Brig. Gen. Md. Moin Uddin, DNCC general manager (Transport) Abdullah Al Masud, and representatives from battery-run rickshaw manufacturing companies.
