Dhaka: Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Administrator Mohammad Ejaz today launched a mobile app called 'Where to go?' to make the public sanitation system of the capital more efficient and technology-driven. 'The combined goal of the two city corporations is to build around 650 modern toilets across the city,' he said while addressing a gathering on the occasion of the 'World Toilet Day' at Shyamoli park here as chief guest.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, with the launching of this app, the city's public sanitation system has entered a new era. Mohammad Ejaz emphasized the importance of collaborations with socially responsible organizations, noting that without such partnerships, it would be challenging for the government alone to achieve comprehensive sanitation improvements.
WaterAid Bangladesh's Country Director Hasin Jahan highlighted the importance of maintaining discipline in using public toilets as at home, suggesting that such behavior would lead to easier maintenance of these facilities. To enhance the toilet-use experience for city dwellers, Bhumijo, with the support of WaterAid Bangladesh, has developed the user-friendly app "Where to go?"
Available on the Google Play Store, the app enables users to locate nearby toilets easily. It provides details such as opening hours, photos, service descriptions, and digital payment options, allowing users to access services through a cashless system using QR-code scanning.
Under WaterAid Bangladesh's 'Pother Dabi' initiative, a Star Rating System has been introduced to evaluate the cleanliness, safety, hand-washing facilities, and overall service quality of toilets. This system aims to help users make informed choices and encourage managing organizations to maintain high service standards.
In celebration of World Toilet Day, WaterAid Bangladesh has handed over five mobile toilets to DNCC. These units will be strategically placed in busy areas of the capital to provide safe and reliable public sanitation facilities for working people, low-income citizens, and women.
Among others, Bhumijo's CEO Farhana Rashid, DSK's Executive Director Dr. Dibalok Singh, and officials from various departments of Dhaka North and South City Corporations were present during the launch event.
