Dhaka: Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Sheikh Md Sajjat Ali today asked policemen in the capital to ensure their ‘cent percent’ neutrality and discharge duties with utmost professionalism during the planned election in February. ‘All police members must maintain 100 percent neutrality in the upcoming elections and perform their duties with utmost sincerity and professionalism,’ he said while addressing a monthly crime review meeting at the Bangladesh Police Auditorium at Rajarbagh Police Lines.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the DMP chief stated that new officers-in-charge (OC) were recently appointed at different police stations as part of a reshuffle. These officers must quickly take note of situations within their purview to take appropriate actions. ‘They (OCs) have to control crimes, identify habitual criminals quickly and bring them under the law,’ Ali emphasized.

DMP’s additional commissioner Md Sarwar highlighted the need for police stations to enhance street patrols in particular cases using government-issued motorbikes and install CCTV cameras at important places to intensify anti-crime vigilance. Another DMP additional commissioner, S N Md Nazrul Islam, advised that the new deputy commissioners (DCs) and OCs must grasp crime patterns in their areas and act accordingly. ‘Officers will have to be more responsible in disposing of cases and enforcing warrants,’ he noted, also urging for strengthening community policing and beat policing, particularly in identity verification when hiring domestic workers and raising awareness about strangers.

DMP’s joint commissioner Md Faruk Hossain presented a report on the overall crime situation of November 2025, which included issues such as robbery, banditry, theft, burglary, murder, accidental death, road accidents, women and child abuse, rape, and the recovery of drugs and weapons. The DMP Commissioner provided various instructions to police members and awarded officers of various ranks and categories, acknowledging their efforts in maintaining law and order, controlling crime, and providing public safety in the capital in November.

Additional Police Commissioners Md Masud Karim, Md Shafiqul Islam, Hasan Md Shawkat Ali, Joint Police Commissioners, DCs, OCs of all police stations, and police officers were present at the meeting.
