Dhaka: Speakers at a discussion in the capital underscored the need for establishing a justice-based humanitarian Bangladesh that will be fearless and free from murder, disappearance, and torture. “The new Bangladesh which has been achieved through the blood of thousands of people will be free from disappearances, murders, or extrajudicial killings, where humanity will be at the heart of the state,” said speakers at the National Museum auditorium.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the discussion titled ‘What do we want in new Bangladesh?’ was organized by ‘Bannernews’. Researcher and writer Mobashwer Hasan emphasized, “We don’t want to see any more disappearances and murders in this independent Bangladesh, which has been achieved with the blood of thousands of people.” He reiterated that the new Bangladesh will prioritize humanity at its core.
Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam voiced aspirations for a fearless nation, highlighting the need for a country where citizens’ voices are heard,
students remain, and pollution is eradicated. He stressed the importance of trying those with “blood on their hands” first and remarked that Sheikh Hasina would be brought to trial for her actions.
The discussion also criticized media conduct during Sheikh Hasina’s regime. Convener of Anti Discrimination Student Movement Hasnat Abdullah alleged media control from Ganobhaban and condemned journalism that supports the government in exchange for plots. He advocated for a shift to people-oriented media reflecting public expectations.
Professor Dr. Salimullah Khan called for equality and justice-based governance, opposing torture, discrimination, and extrajudicial acts. He advocated for free education up to class 12 and criticized human rights violations under fascist regimes over the past 16 years.
