Dinajpur:Farmers in various parts of the district are increasingly opting for hybrid and off-season vegetable varieties, with hybrid Early-45 summer beans offering promising opportunities for increased production and better financial returns. This shift towards crop diversification is being driven by rising demand and favorable market conditions.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Moyez Uddin, a farmer from Khansama upazila, has successfully cultivated Early-45 summer beans, earning significant returns from his 22-decimal plot. With technical support from the Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE), Moyez planted this variety during the Kharif-2 season of 2026-27 under the Sustainable Agricultural Development Project. His bean field in Seat Alokdihi village has shown excellent growth, with trellises covered in flowers and beans.

Moyez explained that he turned to summer bean cultivation instead of conventional crops to maximize his land's profitability. He has invested approximately Tk 28,000 to Tk 30,000 and anticipates sales of Tk 75,000 to Tk 80,000, given current favorable weather conditions and production rates. With beans selling locally at Tk 110 to Tk 120 per kilogram, he expects a net profit of Tk 55,000 to Tk 60,000.

Inspired by Moyez's success, other local farmers, including Kashem Ali, have started cultivating summer beans, expanding the region's acreage dedicated to this crop. Khansama Sub-Assistant Agriculture Officer Md Mominul Bin Amin indicated that regular guidance on crop management, disease, and pest control is being provided to farmers.

Khansama Upazila Agriculture Officer Yasmin Akter highlighted that aligning crop diversification with climate and seasonal conditions can enhance farmers' earnings. She noted that the Agriculture Department supports increased income through modern practices and encourages the adoption of new technologies and crop varieties like the Early-45 beans.

Deputy Director of Dinajpur DAE Md Afzal Hossain stated that the department has distributed seeds of the improved Early-45 variety to farmers across all 13 upazilas. After last year's experimental cultivation yielded good profits, this year has seen widespread adoption of the Early-45 beans. The beans are noted for their taste and market demand, and field observations suggest promising yields. Afzal expressed optimism that the variety's cultivation will continue to expand, offering farmers further opportunities for diversification and income growth.
