Dhaka:A court today placed Diamond World Managing Director Dilip Kumar Agarwala on a four-day remand in connection with a case related to the attempted murder of a protester during the 2024 July Uprising. Agarwala is also a member of the central sub-committee on industry and commerce of the now-banned Bangladesh Awami League.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the court granted the remand in the case filed over the attempted murder of a 21-year-old youth named A Jabbar. Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Sarah Farzana Haque passed the order following a petition by the investigation officer in the case.

Sub-Inspector Md Suman Mia of Uttara West Police Station initially sought a seven-day remand for Agarwala to ensure a thorough investigation. The request was confirmed by Sub-Inspector Helal Uddin, an official of the general registration section of the Uttara West Police Station court.

Agarwala was arrested by a team from the Detective Branch of Dhaka Metropolitan Police on October 19 in the Banani area of the city. Previously, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Ariful Islam had granted a one-day remand for Agarwala in a separate money laundering case filed with Gulshan Police Station.

As per the first information report (FIR) in the attempted murder case, A Jabbar was shot on August 5, the final day of the 2024 July Uprising, in front of BNS Centre on the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway, under the jurisdiction of Uttara West Police Station. A Jabbar was hospitalized until September 26, 2024, and subsequently filed the attempted murder case on March 27, 2025, naming Agarwala as accused No. 31 in the FIR.
