Dhaka: Various programmes were held at different residential halls of Dhaka University today, marking the first anniversary of the historic July Uprising. Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Niaz Ahmed Khan was present as the chief guest at the events organized at Shaheed Sergeant Zahurul Haque Hall and Kabi Jasim Uddin Hall. According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Treasurer Professor Dr. M. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury served as the chief guest at the program organized at Muktijoddha Ziaur Rahman Hall. Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Niaz Ahmed Khan laid the foundation stone of the 'July Memorial Pillar' at Shaheed Sergeant Zahurul Haque Hall and inaugurated various development activities, including the renovated TV room, reading room, mosque, medicine corner, and canteen of the hall. Earlier, he attended the voluntary blood donation programme and photography exhibition organized in the hall. Treasurer Professor Dr. M. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, Proctor Associate Professor Saifuddin Ahmed, Hall Provost Professor Dr. Md. Faruk Shah, and the resident teachers and students of the hall were present at the program. Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Niaz Ahmed Khan also paid tribute to the July fighters, emphasizing pride in arrangements involving those who protested against injustice and donated blood. The Vice-Chancellor expressed a vision of collective progress in the new Bangladesh following the July Uprising. He called for the cooperation of teachers, students, alumni, and both governmental and private institutions to further the development of education and research. He emphasized the role of students in shaping history and urged them to collaborate with the administration to set a positive example. A special remembrance and discussion meeting were held at the Kabi Jasim Uddin Hall Auditorium, attended by Pro-Vice Chancellor (Administration) Professor Dr. Saima Haque Bidisha as a special guest. Hall Provost Professor Dr. Mohammad Shaheen Khan presided over the event. Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Niaz Ahmed K han inaugurated development activities including the July Corner, the renovated South Building, the air-conditioning addition to the Hall Mosque, and the modernization of the Provost's office. A student-teacher debate, free blood grouping program, and spot quiz were also organized. Various programs, including a discussion meeting titled 'Smriti Smarane Raktim July', were held in the Muktijoddha Ziaur Rahman Hall. Treasurer Professor Dr. M. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury spoke as the chief guest, with Hall Principal Professor Dr. Md. Nazmul Hossain and other resident teachers and students in attendance.
