Dhaka: Dhaka today emphasized the importance of expanding legal migration channels for skilled Bangladeshi professionals to Germany under the framework of the Bangladesh-EU Talent Partnership. The call was made during a farewell meeting between German Ambassador to Bangladesh Achim Tr¶ster and Foreign Secretary Asad Alam Siam at the foreign ministry, as Ambassador Tr¶ster’s diplomatic assignment comes to a close, according to a ministry’s press release.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the Foreign Secretary highlighted Germany as a growing academic destination for Bangladeshi students and suggested that expedited visa processing could further facilitate academic exchanges. The meeting revisited significant milestones achieved during the Ambassador’s tenure, including the inaugural Strategic Dialogue held in Berlin in August 2021, and advances made through the Climate and Development Partnership, as well as the expansion of trade and cultural cooperation.

The Foreign Secretary acknowledged Germany’s role as Bangladesh’s largest European trading partner and recognized its continuous development assistance across vital areas such as rural development, healthcare, education, energy efficiency, and private sector growth. He expressed appreciation for Germany’s ongoing humanitarian support to the forcibly displaced Rohingya population, reiterating that their early repatriation to Myanmar remains the only sustainable solution to the crisis.

Siam also praised Germany’s global leadership in forward-looking initiatives like the Global Shield and the Climate Club, expressing optimism that Bangladesh would soon benefit from the associated financial mechanisms to enhance its climate resilience. The Foreign Secretary congratulated Ambassador Tr¶ster on a successful tenure and commended his efforts to strengthen Bangladesh-Germany relations, expressing confidence that the momentum built during Tr¶ster’s tenure would be maintained by his successor.
